In recognition of the incredible work of global youth activists and organizers dedicated to building a better climate, Carbonbase, supported by Project Ark and the ImpactNFT Alliance, designed a unique set of Delegate NFTs (Non Fungible Tokens) for attendees of the Conference of Youth (COY) 16, held in Glasgow, UK this year, a week before the official UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP) 26. Project Ark also had the honor of being represented in COP26’s Digital Green Zone, a dedicated exhibition space for youth groups, academia, artists, and business.

The UN Climate Change Conference of Youth (COY) is an event under the banner of YOUNGO — The Official Youth Constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The conference takes place right before the annual UN Climate Change Conference, also known as Conference of the Parties (COP) in the same host country as COP. COY serves as a space for capacity building and policy training, in order to prepare young people for their participation at COP; COP fosters conversations and commitments between world leaders and their governments with the express purpose of mitigating the deleterious effects of climate change and securing a livable future for humanity.

In 2021, COY will be in its 16th year and is dubbed as the largest and longest running youth event to date, gathering thousands of young changemakers from more than 140 countries. It is likewise hailed as the most significant youth gathering for its capacity to directly forward the official youth position in the UN Climate Negotiations. One of the major outputs of COY16 is the policy document crafted by youth voices globally, which will be forwarded during the UN Climate Negotiations. (sourced from https://ukcoy16.org/what-is-coy)

The COY16 ImpactNFT was created by Carbonbase’s in-house NFT artist Arturo Fernandez Rodríguez and was awarded to all COY16 participants. The Golden Stag — Project Ark’s contribution to COP26’s Digital Green Zone — was created with art and design by Hazel Griffiths and music by Allauras.

Carbonbase representatives Mihai Hrmiuc and Elliot David attended COY in person, supporting youth delegates from across the globe.

“The energy expressed by the delegates and the rest of the participants gave us a renewed sense of duty and responsibility for pushing innovation forward through our solutions. I truly believe that blockchain and NFTs will be something that everyone will be familiar with, and the creativity of the youth will be unleashed by a new wave of tech enabled innovation.”

Mihai Hrmiuc, Carbonbase Strategic Partnership Director

“COY16 was an amazing experience- I met so many people in the climate field and gained a lot. A huge thank you to everyone who organized the event, especially Carbonbase for supporting me!”

Lance Lau, Solo School Striker and Hong Kong Climate Activist

“COY16 was a historic moment. Not only did we craft an inclusive youth statement gathering 40,000 inputs from 135 countries but we were able to show our world leaders that diplomatic change is possible when we come together and unify for change.”

Keziah Theresee Gerosano, Grants and Partnerships Coordinator at COY16

“Organizing COY16 this year was both a challenge turned into a victory. Handling the Global Affairs Unit of the event, with 300+ volunteers from different countries, we were able to mobilize thousands of youth to have their voices heard at COP26. This is just the start.”

Jan Kairel Guillermo, Global Affairs Unit Coordinator and YOUNGO Liaison at COY16

Carbonbase was delighted to support COY16 as an official partner, and will help calculate and offset the carbon footprint of delegates attending COY. Project Ark also provided an Augmented Reality Lioness (co-created with partner Chicken Waffle) onsite to engage participants with the opportunity to support global wildlife conservation projects. The attendees were delighted to take pictures with the Lioness, one of four animated characters that have traveled with Project Ark to conferences across the globe, most recently at Hong Kong’s first ImpactNFT Alliance Exhibition, co-curated by Project Ark.

About

Carbonbase is a HK-based climate change software company that helps individuals and corporations to measure their environmental footprint, reduce CO2 emissions, and co-create a better planet together. We help companies calculate and reduce their emissions, and facilitate them to receive green finance funding, helping them pass on their savings and services to the end consumer. Starting with the initial verticals of maritime shipping companies and real estate developers, Carbonbase is helping the two key industries that touch virtually all supply chains. In the long run, Carbonbase aspires to build a more transparent supply chain, where every product in the future will display its end-to-end carbon emissions, enabling more conscious consumption by empowering the citizens to align their purchase with carbon neutral goals.

Project Ark, created in partnership between Carbonbase and World Wildlife Fund Panda Labs, is an international team offering solutions to creators, collectors, and corporates who want to realize the promise of ImpactNFTs. As a founding member of the ImpactNFT Alliance, Project Ark works with global NGOs to create the standards and mechanisms of ImpactNFTs for the community to adopt and use.

ImpactNFT Alliance’s mission is to ignite and accelerate impact creation by galvanizing web3 projects around the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals using NFTs. Bringing together a vibrant community of all those interested in Impact, non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and blockchain, the ImpactNFT.org platform aims to catalyse a cross-industry alliance that can promote, explore and discuss ideas where NFTs can be used to drive positive SDG impact.

COY16 is the 16th United Nations Climate Change Conference of Youth, and this year it will be celebrated in Glasgow, Scotland from the 28th to the 31st of October. As the official YOUNGO conference, COY is organized by youth and for youth around the world.
